Classroom Instruction

Classes are divided into skill groups, and alternate between classroom instruction and on-track driving sessions with Phil's highly qualified instructors. You can expect as many as six 20-minute on-track sessions during the one-day class -- depending upon your group and size of class. Regardless the Phil Wicks MINI Driving Academy is an excellent value when combining the instruction, the track time and MINI Cooper focus. .

Both Classic Minis and New MINIs are welcome at the Phil Wicks MINI Driving Academy! As a Mini racer, stunt driver, and engineer, Phil is in a unique position to instruct drivers of the Classic Mini. His insight into the makeup and handling of the Mini will make you a safer, more skillful driver on the street or track. In fact, Phil's association with the development and driving of the original Mini Cooper has earned Phil the support of MINI USA for his MINI Driving Academy.

First we'll help you select your skill group:

  • ACCIDENT AVOIDANCE (SAFE DRIVING COURSE) Mandatory for all first time Novice students. Click here to learn more.
  • PERFORMANCE DRIVING BASIC (NOVICE): This program is designed for the sports-minded driver with little or no on-track driving experience. Sessions alternate between classroom instruction addressing proper lines and vehicle handling while navigating a racetrack and on-track driving sessions. All Novice drivers will drive with an instructor on-track until ready for advancement to the next skill group.
  • HIGH PERFORMANCE ADVANCED: This program is designed for the experienced driver with some on-track driving experience. Additional instruction is available for better driving and track navigation.
  • EXPERT: This program is designed for licensed racers or very experienced drivers with on-track driving experience.

Safety is Priority One at all Phil Wicks Driving Academies. Track turn workers and emergency personnel are on hand at all classes and the Academy's insurance will cover damage which may occur to the trackfacilities. Check with your auto insurance provider regarding coverage for you and your MINI and emphasize this is a driver's school, not a racing program.

Class hours vary according to venue and time of year. Generally, instruction begins at 8 am and ends at 5 pm, with adjustments for weather, visibility, or other unforeseen condition. A short lunch break is included. With nearly eight hours of instruction, you can expect a full day of on-track sessions!
